What can I expect from a hygienist appointment?

Here at Maylands Practice we have 3 highly trained and experienced hygienists who have a thorough approach to their work. Your hygienist will examine your gum health during your routine appointment and check for any abnormalities. A scale and polish (deep clean of your teeth) is performed, to remove deep staining in the form of plaque and tartar, which cannot be removed through brushing and flossing at home. Hygiene appointments are important when it comes to scale and polish treatment, as if plaque and tartar are left to linger, they can progress to a serious degree of gum disease. Your hygienist can also educate you on the best ways to clean your teeth depending on your teeth structure and how they sit it your mouth. Prevention and education are their two predominant roles.
