Inlays and Onlays

Inlays and onlays repair teeth that have suffered cavities that cannot be repaired with a filling.

They are less invasive than getting a crown and involve less initial preparation which in turn means more of the existing tooth is preserved. Inlays offer substantial support, especially in the case of your back teeth, whilst onlays are used in cases where an inlay is not sufficient and repair the middle of a tooth’s chewing surface.

What can I expect when getting an inlay or onlay?

After carefully examining your tooth, we will take a digital impression to send off to the lab so your custom inlay or onlay can be created. Inlays and onlays are made from porcelain or resin, both of which are close matches for the shade of natural tooth enamel, so they will be in keeping with your smile. The decayed matter will be removed and the inlay or onlay placed, once we receive it back at the practice.
